ABOUT US

Blount County Memorial Post 5154 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars was chartered on January 30, 1946, after 323 military veterans of Blount County requested that they be allowed to establish a post. All of them served in combat areas. They came together to help fellow veterans, help the community, share experiences and have a place to enjoy each other’s friendship. Some notable events for our post are that we’ve been home to 2 Tennessee VFW state Commanders. W. S. "Doc” Barker 1974-1975 and Lloyd Hansen 2019-2020.

Our Buddy Poppy donation drives we’ve been able to raise money to assist veterans and their families and for programs to honor our veterans. Additionally, we have conducted many different Post drives for food, clothing or monetary donations organized to aid local organizations, veterans and veteran hospitals.

Post 5154 has been active for many years recognizing local teachers, Scouts, and first responders. Our annual Patriots Pen Essay contest for middle schoolers and Voice of Democracy Speech contest for high schoolers are programs which can aid in local, state, or National recognition and/or scholarships and instill patriotism in our youth.

We welcomed home local troops from wars, and we're involved with area remembrances of our veterans. We strive to help fellow veterans and their families, remember our fallen, support the local community, promote patriotism, and be a place for veterans to meet and share their experiences. Most importantly, is we CARE about the community, all veterans and family members.
